Fighting Scaries in the Prairies: A Halloween Savanna Restoration

This Halloween season, the real monsters aren’t ghosts or goblins—they're invasive species! Help us banish these botanical beasts from the blufftop prairie and oak savanna at Plum Creek. Along the way, you'll collect seeds of native plants and learn about the incredible ecosystem we're working to protect. We’re restoring the prairie and oak savanna—making it look like the good ol’ days—one plant at a time. We’ll provide all the tools, gloves, and some tasty snacks to keep you fueled up. Dress for the season (weather-wise, not just spooky!) and bring your love for the land.

Join Mississippi Valley Conservancy on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 for a day of habitat restoration and brush removal at the Conservancy’s Plum Creek Conservation Area nature preserve. From 9 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., volunteers and Conservancy staff will work to restore this important home for wildlife and prepare for upcoming prescribed burns.

All ages and skill levels are welcome – dress appropriately for the weather and bring sturdy footwear and clothing to protect from brush. Join us in caring for this priceless preserve!
