RUN THE BLUFFS - TRAIL RUNNING IN THE LA CROSSE BLUFFLANDS - 10/18, 10-11 a.m., Hass Tract
Join Mississippi Valley Conservancy for a high energy, high intensity trail run through the La Crosse Blufflands at the Hass Tract. We will be putting our bodies and minds to the test as we explore the beautiful forests, uphill and downhill trails, and ridgetop overlooks of the Hass Tract. The trail we will be running is approximately 2 miles round trip, rugged and steep in places, uphill on the way out, and downhill on the way back. This event is intended for intermediate trail runners looking for a challenging adventure through the bluffs above La Crosse. LICHEN & NATIVE PLANT FORAY - 10/19, 9-10:30 a.m., La Crosse Blufflands Kaplan Tract
Join Mississippi Valley Conservancy to explore the weird and unusual habits of lichens in the Driftless Area. Wander through woods and prairie to discover mysterious fungi, algae, and plants with the Conservancy’s Restoration Coordinator Payton Lott. This foray will travel off trail on steep slopes. AUTUMN AMBLE ACROSS HOLLAND SAND PRAIRIE - 10/20, 11-12:00 p.m.
Embark on a fall hike with Mississippi Valley Conservancy, where we’ll explore one of the region’s most unique prairies – Holland Sand Prairie. Join us as we explore the rich history of the site, discuss current management and conservation practices, and look for some of the diverse flora and fauna that call the prairie home. Grab a friend and your favorite pair of hiking shoes as we amble across the relatively flat terrain, and take in the serenity of autumn on the prairie.
