What does it mean to be a member of Mississippi Valley Conservancy?
That’s pretty simple. Anyone, giving a gift of any amount, is a member. So why does that matter? What do I get from my membership? A patch, a membership card, a hat or pair of logoed socks?
No, you get something much more important than that. You get peace of mind knowing that you are a part of the solution. The solution to what problem, you ask? The problem is habitat loss. Habitat loss is a major cause of biodiversity loss, which means the decline of plant, animal, and insect species. Habitat loss due to urbanization and infrastructure development also leads to greater risk of flooding, degraded local streams, and lower water quality.
Membership is a SOLUTION in the form of:
- restoring prairies for the Rusty patch bumble bee and other native insects to gather pollen,
- preserving farmland for families to grow fresh food,
- protecting contiguous stretches of forests full of towering trees for migrating birds and local wildlife,
- providing educational outreach opportunities for families in nine counties at more than 25 nature preserves,
- collaborating with other agencies to work toward cleaner water for fish, frogs, turtles and drinking, AND
- ensuring that parcels of land remain undeveloped to help create more climate resilience in the Driftless Area.
Your gift means that you are a member of the Mississippi Valley Conservancy Team, and together, we will conserve native habitats and farmlands for the current and future health and well-being of the Driftless Area. We are better together!
Are you a member? If you are, thank you! If you are not, we encourage you to join the Conservancy team by making a gift today.
P.S. As a little bonus, members DO get to sign up first for some of our limited capacity hikes (like our famous cave tours)!
